Letter from the Chief

Welcome,

I would like to welcome you to the official website of the Ste. Genevieve Fire Department. I hope you find the site informative. I would also like to invite you to check out our official Facebook page.

I take great pride and honor in introducing you to our department. The Ste. Genevieve Fire Department was founded in 1894, by a group of dedicated citizens who had the foresight to start fire protection in our city.  The Ste. Genevieve Fire Department is an all-volunteer department comprised of 28 volunteer firefighters. We no doubt have some of the most dedicated and talented firefighters in the area.

Ste. Genevieve is the largest city, and the county seat, of Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri. We provide service not only to the City of Ste. Genevieve, but also approximately 48 square miles, which includes a subscription tag area outside our city limits.  Our department not only protects our citizens and their property, but we also protect the history of our country.  Ste. Genevieve is the oldest city west of the Mississippi River, with some historic homes dating back to 1792.  Our department has an ISO fire rating of class 5 district-wide.

Our department has a roster of 28 volunteer members, and we respond to an average of 175 calls per year. Our department provides structural and wildland fire suppression, all forms of rescue, and provides mutual aid to our other six fire departments in Ste. Genevieve County, and other communities in surrounding counties.

I have been fortunate to serve as Fire Chief since March 2015, and am proud to serve with the dedicated men and women that we have in Ste. Genevieve. Most of our members have numerous certifications, including Firefighter I & II, Technical Rescue, Fire / Arson Investigation, Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians, First Responder, and Hazardous Materials Operations.

We currently offer services such as educational classes, training for businesses and industries, public relations appearances, and tours of the fire stations, to mention a few.

We have a City Council / City Manager form of government, and thanks to the support of our City Government, we are a progressive department doing our best to serve our citizens.

If this sounds like something you would like to be a part of, let us know.  We are always accepting applications and we will provide the training at no cost to you.

Thanks for visiting our web page!

Yours in service,
Ken Steiger, Fire Chief
